Scene Study Classes
$100 USD per session
The first thing you notice about Jeff’s acting classes is the absence of any discussion of acting. He doesn’t use any acting terminology. No mention of action verbs, or beats, or inner monologues. None of it. The Real Life Actor approach limits the discussions to the same terminology real people use when they discuss and evaluate similar situations in life. As Jeff often states, “If the end goal is for our work to appear as though we are actually living in the imaginary circumstance, and not “acting”, perhaps the first thing we can do is stop treating it like an acting assignment.” With Jeff, you focus on the character’s concerns, not the actor’s concerns. This simple shift in thinking enables actors to more easily connect to the material. Actors aren’t distracted with a lot of pre-thought acting obligations. The Real Life Actor approach also focuses heavily on story. This helps the actor understand the purpose of their character in the script. This knowledge helps the actor better focus their performance on their character’s needs and perhaps even more importantly the story’s needs.
Classes are primarily scene study and are limited to 12 actors. Jeff assigns the scenes and the actors are expected to have their lines memorized. The scenes are worked on for a maximum of 2 sessions.
Tuition is $100 per session
